Thermally modified European Spruce (P. abies) top for Mandolin. This process, aka “Torrefaction”, involves heating the wood in a sealed, air-tight, chamber with near-zero oxygen to high temperature. The result is a very stable wood of a nice brown color and resembling old wood. Perhaps most important is the decease in damping (increase is sound velocity) that results from the process of thermal modification. Also, density is reduced. The 3 photos shown are for reference, only. All pieces are unique. These are from our highest quality Carpathian top.
These tops are nicely quartered and are wedge cut into book-matched sets.
